Dr. Szerlip Delivers Academic Presentations in Las Vegas

This month, I delivered academic presentations to help new shoulder specialists increase their understanding of the nuance of their chosen specialty. Often, the most challenging part of surgery is identifying the best procedure to address a patient’s needs, the experience we develop on a daily basis helps us to troubleshoot potential complications for our patients.

When you need an orthopedic surgeon, you want the best available. Many orthopedic surgeons, like Benjamin Szerlip, DO, and Robert Graham, MD, the founders Austin Shoulder Institute, complete rigorous fellowship training to specialize in a specific joint or part of the body. Dr. Szerlip delivered academic presentations to a group of surgeons participating in shoulder surgery fellowship training programs at a training session in Las Vegas this month.

Dr. Szerlip explains:

“Dr. Graham and I have a shared commitment to rigorous academics. The orthopedic field is continually evolving, and staying abreast of emerging techniques and technologies is critical to providing the best possible care for our patients. We deliver academic presentations and lectures and participate in training events several times a year, sometimes to learn about new developments in shoulder surgery and sometimes to share our expertise and knowledge with surgeons studying to specialize in shoulder surgery.

This month, I delivered academic presentations to help new shoulder specialists increase their understanding of the nuance of their chosen specialty. Often, the most challenging part of surgery is identifying the best procedure to address a patient’s needs. While expert training prepares us to diagnose injuries and perform operations, the experience we develop on a daily basis helps us to troubleshoot potential complications for our patients. That’s the knowledge I share with shoulder surgery Fellows.

For example, some patients with arthritis will slowly but surely dislocate their shoulder. If you know what to look for you can choose the best surgical techniques to eliminate their risk of dislocation when you replace their shoulder.

I want to help new shoulder surgeons understand the wide range of details they’ll encounter daily so that they’re well prepared to deliver outstanding services. An added benefit of participating in these training events is the chance to continue to learn myself. Shoulder surgery Fellows ask intelligent, thoughtful questions that help us all to consider different aspects of shoulder surgery and improving outcomes for our patients.”

Academic Rigor

Both Dr. Szerlip and Dr. Graham actively research and study shoulder anatomy and surgical techniques. They frequently publish their work and are active in the orthopedic surgery academic community. As a patient, you benefit from their commitment to learning because they have developed and honed their knowledge at every stage of their career.

They want to use the best technology and software for planning operations, which helps them to prepare for surgery and any potential complications. Their goal is to ensure they use technology for the best possible patient care and outcomes.
